How often should commercial refrigeration and HVAC equipment be serviced?
For most commercial sites we recommend planned servicing at least twice a year, with high-use equipment such as supermarket refrigeration, cool rooms and busy kitchens often benefiting from quarterly visits. A well-maintained system should be checked every one to six months to make sure the filters and coils are clean and the gas levels are adequate. Regular servicing keeps systems running efficiently, reduces the risk of unexpected breakdowns and helps equipment reach its full design life.
What areas do you cover?
We are based in Kingsland and service commercial clients right across the wider Auckland region. Northland and the Waikato are possible by arrangement, usually for contracted work. If you are unsure whether we cover your location, just ask.
Are your installations compliant, and are you IQP registered?
Yes. Set Point Technology is registered with Auckland Council as an Independent Qualified Person, IQP 110611, for SS9 mechanical ventilation and air conditioning — the systems that need a Form 12A certificate each year for your building warrant of fitness. Set Point is also a registered Producer Statement Author, PSA 1902, approved to author PS1 design, PS3 construction and PS4 construction review. Both registrations are on Auckland Council's public registers and were renewed in 2026. Public liability and professional indemnity insurance are both held.
What is the difference between refrigeration and air conditioning?
Both work by moving heat, but they are designed for different jobs. Refrigeration keeps products and spaces cold and stable: cool rooms, freezers and display cabinets. Air conditioning manages the temperature, humidity and air quality of a space for people's comfort. Many commercial sites need both, and we design, install and maintain each to suit how the premises are actually used.
Can regular maintenance really lower my running costs?
Yes. Equipment that is clean, correctly charged and well maintained uses less energy to do the same work, so a planned maintenance agreement typically pays for itself through lower power bills and fewer emergency repairs. Poor maintenance is one of the most common reasons systems fail early.
My system is old. Should I repair or replace it?
It depends on the age, condition and running costs of the equipment. Older units often work harder, cost more to run and break down more often. You will get an honest assessment of whether a repair makes sense or whether a more efficient replacement will save money over its lifetime.
